Course Description

There is a common weakness shared by autocratic, democratic, and laissez-faire leadership styles: they assume that motivation is inherent or automatic. For many people, this is not the case. In addition, these three leadership styles do not provide guidance on how leaders can connect with team members on an emotional level. In fact, any one of these three styles, applied at the wrong time, can be extremely demotivating to people. When you need to motivate your team or inspire them to try new things, it is necessary to take a motivational approach. In this lesson, you will examine some leadership strategies you can apply when you need to motivate your project team. This may require you to use empathy and relationship-building techniques to inspire people. You will also consider the critical question of when and whether you should roll up your sleeves to help out, and look at some helpful leadership strategies you can apply when you need to be one of the people participating.
