Course Description

When we make projections or decisions based on data, we are doing so with the intent of reducing uncertainty. The value added by data analysis depends on the data you use and your understanding of how best to use it. In this lesson, you will examine how to develop a mathematical model to represent several factors that influence an outcome or decision. Since your initial attempt at modeling most likely will not give you the best achievable model, you'll determine how to refine your model by looking at the importance of each factor. You'll also consider the nature of the relationship between each factor and the result in which you're interested.

Benefits to the Learner

  • Review the process of developing a mathematical model to represent several factors that influence an outcome or decision
  • Use a helpful Excel-based tool to aid you in quickly and easily testing a single independent variable for association with a dependent variable
