Course Description

"You're fired!" Those are probably not the words you would use when ending someone's employment. Dismissals require thought and planning and should be carried out in a civil and respectful manner. As a manager, what are the legal requirements and best practices associated with terminating one of your employees?

In this lesson, you will develop a dismissal plan suited for your work unit or organization. To help you do that, Professor Colvin offers tips, best practices, and some words of caution. You will also have an opportunity to participate in another discussion where you can share experiences with a dismissal that you experienced or observed.

Benefits to the Learner

  • Review the legal requirements and best practices associated with the process of terminating one of your employees
  • Use a Dismissal Checklist tool to outline a termination plan suited to your own work unit or organization
