Course Description

Satisfaction and commitment are not what drive sustained organizational performance; rather, it is employee engagement that really makes the difference. It is critical for HR professionals to develop a nuanced understanding of what engagement is and how it can be fostered through effective management strategies. In this lesson, you will define engagement and determine how it manifests in observable behavior. You will identify how engagement predicts performance and explore what engagement looks and feels like by conducting a self-assessment. Professor Lisa Nishii will discuss the research behind the business case for improving engagement which will allow you to distinguish between engagement and related employee attitudes, such as organizational satisfaction, commitment, and pride.
