Course Description

The terms “One Health,” “Planetary Health,” and “Public Health” have been in the news a lot this past year. But what do they mean? How are they different from each other? What roles can veterinarians play in each? The first hour will explore the multiple dimensions of each of these terms, focusing primarily on One Health, which is both a paradigm or way of understanding complex relationships, as well as a transdisciplinary approach. Examples and case studies will be used to highlight these different dimensions, showing the many ways that human health depends on the health of animals and the environment more broadly. The second hour will be forward looking, examining the greatest challenges to the health of people and our planet, and what we can do about them based on One Health, Planetary Health, and Public Health understanding.
