Course Description

Farm animal rescues and organizations are becoming more prevalent in society in recent years. Their vision and needs for their animals are unique from other large animal clients. This can present familiar and unfamiliar issues for the veterinary team in their care and management, as well as challenge ideas about expectations of care. This lecture will discuss this emerging perspective in large animal care and how to prepare for working with farm animal rescues organizations.

  • Compare and contrast current farm animal rescue to practice in production, shelter, and palliative care medicine
  • Name the most common ethical dilemmas that occur in farm animal rescue care and factors that guide expectations in their care
  • Identify the scale of operation of the rescue client  in order to be more effective in expectations and communication
  • Set- up a questionnaire/ care plan for new rescue clients for care expectations, client education, and re-evaluation
