Course Description

In this session, attendees can expect to learn about the interplay of metabolism and the immune response, which nutrients are needed for the immune system to function, and why the postpartum period is a particular time of risk for infectious disease. This talk will cover basics of transition cow physiology, summarize recent research highlighting the interplay of metabolic disease and immune dysfunction and give examples of how to apply these principles when considering the effect of nutrition and transition cow management on disease risk of postpartum cows.
