Course Description

This session will include an update on the AlignCare project will be presented. AlignCare is a national structured healthcare system to improve access to veterinary care for underserved families. The AlignCare project started in July 2018 with a $2.8 million grant from Maddie's Fund. During the first year of this 3-year project, University of Tennessee investigators and consultants researched and developed AlignCare's essential features, described in the AlignCare Community Manual. Qualified families are now enrolling in AlignCare in several communities. Points of enrollment are at participating social service agencies, veterinary service providers, and animal welfare organizations. The families are also connected with a Human Support Coordinator in their community. The Program for Pet Health Equity works with communities to establish the AlignCare Community Coalition, based on the Community Ownership Model. Key stakeholders include veterinary service providers, animal welfare organizations, social service agencies, foundations, businesses, and private citizens.
