Course Description

Many approaches to operations management have been devised and refined over the years, dating all the way back to Scottish philosopher Adam Smith's suggestion in his 1776 book "Wealth of Nations" that a division of labor by tasks would increase work efficiency. One framework in particular, which emerged in the mid-20th century, has proven to be highly effective across industry lines: the Toyota Production System (TPS). In this lesson, you will explore the foundational principles of the highly successful and time-tested TPS approach to operations management. You will also investigate how the TPS principles can be applied in any industry, including healthcare, and you will write a recommendation to implement an aspect of TPS in your organization.

Benefits to the Learner

  • Analyze the Toyota Production System (TPS) and related strategies
