Course Description

Climate change has increased the intensity and frequency of storms and extreme weather events. Hurricanes have inflicted considerable damage in the U.S. and around the world, cutting off many cities from food distributors — and workers from their places of employment. In the wake of damaging, large-scale weather events, there are inevitably impacts to the processing, packaging, and storage of your products. In this lesson, you will delve into opportunities and risks. More specifically, you will look at innovative ways your organization can reduce waste generated in the processing of foods and reuse it to your advantage using a method called closed-loop processing. You will explore advances in packaging materials that can cut waste and the use of plastics in the packaging of your food products. You will also study how you can implement circular economy planning into your processes.
