Course Description

After setting the right tone for a mediation, choosing the most appropriate style for navigating the conflict, and leveraging emotions for a positive and fruitful process, the final steps in a mediation are to propose solutions, implement those solutions, and allow closure between the disputing parties. In this lesson, you will distinguish between positions and interests to get at the heart of a conflict. Understanding the true nature of the dispute will allow you to better propose solutions that address needs rather than feelings. Lastly, you will employ a closing statement to help reinforce the solutions agreed upon and encourage long-lasting changes.

Benefits to the Learner

  • Define positions and interests of the parties to identify the underlying conflict
  • Examine how to propose creative solutions that meet the needs of the disputing parties
