Course Description

This assessment, linked with a four-day in-person course presented by The Conservation Fund’s Freshwater Institute, covers the fundamentals of water recirculating systems for fish culture including mass balances to maintain water quality, unit process design and system operation. The 2019 Freshwater Institute RAS Course is being hosted by Ideal Fish at their RAS facility in Waterbury, Connecticut. Materials provided to Freshwater Institute RAS Course participants include a binder and flash drive of all course presentations and a copy of the book Recirculating Aquaculture 4th edition.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Examine how to design a recirculating aquaculture system, component, or process to meet production objectives
  • Determine how to best select appropriate water quality targets
  • Develop a capability to design pumping systems
  • Build an analytical capability to quantify costs of production
  • Identify the critical factors for managing a fish farm
