Course Description

This special event will be a hybrid of our online Technical Assistance Provider (TAP) certification course and live streamed bonus content on Zoom. This will include special topics, research presentations, and panel discussions with experts in the fields of implementation and school food service. The live streamed portion of the conference will take place on October 10th and 11th between 11am-5pm EST. You must be able to join the Zoom calls on an internet-ready device (preferably one with video capability) at those times. This course will open on Wednesday, October 9 so you can sign on, introduce yourself, and download materials before the live streamed portion begins.

This content will build upon the foundation course, PTRBEN001 Creating Smarter Lunchrooms (2 CEUs). If you have not already taken this course, please complete it by Wednesday, Oct 9. The symposium content will build upon the foundation course content. Click here to enroll in Creating Smarter Lunchrooms now!

You will need access to a Lunch Line Redesign magnet kit on Thurs., Oct. 10 as part of the conference. Participants in the same physical space at that time (for instance, colleagues in the same office who are all attending the conference) may complete that activity as a group (up to 8 participants per Lunch Line Redesign magnet set). You can order a Lunch Line Redesign magnet set from your Shopping Cart after this course is in your cart.

After the live streamed portion of the conference is over, you will arrange and conduct a site visit to a school lunchroom and complete the lunchroom observation, interview with a school food service leader, and action plan activity. Once you have submitted these assignments, you will receive your TAP certificate and CEUs. These elements must be submitted by the end of the course on Nov. 19.

Smarter Lunchrooms Technical Assistance Provider (TAP) certification empowers you to partner with schools to “nudge” students to select, eat, and enjoy healthy food options in schools without eliminating choice, using behavioral economics principles. This course provides instruction and practice in using the Smarter Lunchrooms 4-Step Path to develop collaborative relationships with stakeholders, plan and implement effective changes using Smarter Lunchrooms strategies and tools, and use data to evaluate impact.

Other topics include understanding the school food service (SFS) landscape, using correct industry terminology and effective communication skills, and leading professional development.

This course is accredited for eight (8) continuing education credits (CEUs) from the School Nutrition Association (SNA).
