Course Description

Motivation may come from within an individual—intrinsically—or be an outside source or influence—extrinsically. People often experience both of these types of motivation but normally have a primary preference. Getting to know individual preferences can help you identify the compensation elements that will motivate the talent in your organization. In this lesson, you will explore differences in perception, and how these differences can motivate or demotivate individuals. You will review the impact of paying for performance and explore situations where cash compensation may not always be the best option. You will explore a case study discussing the approach of one organization, and formulate an action plan for your own workforce, building on your ability to choose the right performance pay elements for your organization.

Benefits to the Learner

  • Explore perspectives, context, and employee differences that determine how to attract and maintain talent
  • Examine motivators for creatives and researchers and, specifically, how intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation, and pay for performance can affect production in the workplace
