Course Description

Winston Churchill famously stated that “we shape our buildings [and] thereafter they shape us,” correctly implying that we are heavily influenced by our surrounding environment. Countless studies prove just how far reaching this type of influence can be. Blue lights placed in prominent locations around a city reduce crime. Trash on a parking lot increases the likelihood that people will litter. Benches in a work lunchroom increase the chances the people talk to each other. In all of these examples, people's behavior was a direct response to their environmental surroundings. In this lesson, we will explore the third, most sophisticated tactic for influencing others, which involves changing or adjusting the social and physical environment to get the behaviors that you want.
