Course Description

Crisis response solves today's problems, but strategic campaigning shapes tomorrow's conditions. This course moves you beyond reactive leadership to proactive systems shaping, helping you to advocate for favorable conditions before crises emerge. As a central case study, you will explore how Texas’s catastrophic floods resulted from cascading disruptions involving climate change, extreme weather events, energy instability, and infrastructure failures. You’ll consider why these complex crises require sustained, integrated responses rather than episodic crisis management.

Professor Isaiah Wilson guides you through the most advanced strategic thinking frameworks, focusing on polycentric governance, whole-of-society campaigning, and anticipatory leadership. You will design integrated campaigns that synchronize multiple domains of action, build distributed resilience networks, and create adaptive policies that strengthen systems over time. Your asynchronous project culminates in a comprehensive resilience campaign plan that demonstrates your mastery of systems-level strategic leadership.

You are required to have completed the following courses or have equivalent experience before taking this course:

  • Seeing Beyond Symptoms: Identifying System Drivers
  • Mapping Feedback Loops and Cascading Risks
  • Reframing Strategic Dilemmas in Complex Systems
  • Building Adaptive Strategies Across Stakeholder Systems
  • Leading Adaptive and Resilient Organizations
