Course Description

This course is designed to equip students and youth with disabilities with the tools and knowledge they need to effectively represent their interests and navigate the employment landscape.

Self-advocacy encompasses understanding and asserting your rights, communicating your needs, and confidently speaking up for yourself. This course will explore key concepts related to self-advocacy and self-determination and their infusion into the services you provide to students and youth with disabilities. Mastering these skills is essential for youth and students with disabilities to achieve independence and secure successful employment outcomes. To support skills development and meaningful application strategies, this course will also offer resources and tools to support instruction in this area.

Empowering students with disabilities to develop self-advocacy skills is vital for their active engagement in the employment process through all ACCES-VR services. With strong self-advocacy abilities, these students and youth can achieve their highest potential for independence and successful employment outcomes.
