Certificate Description

In five self-paced Units, faculty will gain a survey of Community Engaged Learning (CEL) theory and practice, and how CEL can augment learning in any curriculum. Faculty will apply the foundations of CEL practice to their own course work with downloadable tools and sample activities to adapt, while gaining a core understanding of CEL.

In Unit 1, faculty will discern the value of CEL and implement CEL tools and activities. They'll continue to build a CEL toolkit in Unit 2 with tools to improve student self-awareness and accountability through CEL and apply cultural humility in interpersonal and institutional relationships. Unit 3 will help faculty develop an asset based mindset and support reciprocal and sustainable community-campus partnerships in the classroom. Unit 4 delves into critical reflection and provides the tools to encourage deeper learning potential from student CEL in the curriculum. Finally, Unit 5 covers the steps for cultivating CEL leadership among students from individual actions to becoming a change agent within the institution and beyond.
